Job Summary

The role of the Upholstery Technician is to expertly upholster, wrap and tack chairs to meet production and quality standards. This involves measuring and cutting fabric or leather, applying padding, fitting and securing coverings using tools such as staple guns and tacking hammers, and ensuring each chair is finished to a high standard of craftsmanship. The Upholstery Technician is responsible for maintaining attention to detail, following design specifications, and working efficiently to meet deadlines. The role may also include minor repairs, quality checks, and collaboration with other team members in the production or refurbishment process.

Responsibilities

•    Measure, cut, and prepare upholstery materials e.g. fabric
•    Apply padding, webbing, and springs using hand tools and machinery
•    Wrap and upholster chairs, ensuring fabric is aligned, smooth, and securely fastened.
•    Tack or staple fabric to frames using industrial tools.
•    Perform basic repairs or reupholstery of existing items as required.
•    Maintain a clean and organised work area.
•    Inspect finished products for defects or inconsistencies and make necessary corrections.
•    Follow work orders and product specifications accurately.
•    Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to resolve issues.
•    Comply with all safety procedures and company policies.
•    The Manager is proactively advised of issues, potential issues ahead, and opportunities for performance efficiency improvement and these are acted on.
•    Managing the upholstery schedule.
•    Responsible for meeting customer delivery times and where possible exceeding these.
•    Responsible for Quality of Product before it is despatched.
•    Safe and efficient operation of a forklift, loading and unloading trucks of freight forwarders.
•    Providing an excellent and professional level of customer service to customers collecting product from the warehouse.
•    Assembly of chairs including full functional checks and packaging and dispatch within agreed time frames.
•    Provide accurate and efficient support in all areas of the warehouse operation.

Other:
•    Other ad hoc duties as required. 
•    Ensure compliance to company policy including code of conduct, health and safety and quality management system. 
•    Comply with travel and expense policy, policy for use for mobile phones, computers and all other company assets in the possession of the employee.

Qualifications

  

Three years’ experience in chair upholstery

•        Be able to follow a pattern and work with different fabrics

•        Be able to make a pattern

•        Measure and cut new covering materials using patterns and measuring and cutting instruments.

•        Being able to use an overlocking machine

•        Be able to operate a walking foot sewing machine

•        Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, must have a competent level of English.

•        Health and Safety conscious and be familiar with heavy lifting techniques, must be able to lift comfortably up to 25kg.

•        Customer service focused and can prioritize and plan own working day, good organisational acumen is required.

•        Can efficiently understand and follow instructions and processes as directed.

•        Actively engage in team meetings and encouraged to always look for better working practices and continuous improvement.

•        Strong relationship with the customer Service team and good communication skills

•        Managing the RMA (returns in a timely fashion)

•        Project management of large customer installs, etc.

•        Managing customer repairs and warranty requests.

•        Responsible for the tidiness of the warehouse and site using the S's method.

•        Makes effective decisions, sometimes with limited time frame and information based on the assessment of options, risks and benefits.

•        Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to effectively direct the warehouse operations.

•        A can-do attitude with a willingness to achieve, must be flexible in regards to the business needs.

•        A very strong work ethic, with an eye to attention to detail.

•        A competent level of computer skills, previous RF scanner experience preferable but not essential.

•        Driver’s licence

•        A forklift licence may be required.
